The Presentation
This presentation is designed to provide an overview of home elevators for architects and builders. The learning objectives for the course are as follows:

  • Relate to the variety of applications for home elevators
  • Identify common features and the four main types of elevator drive systems
  • Analyze site requirements and project timelines
  • Understand codes and regulations applicable to residential elevators

By the end of this session, participants should have a broad understanding of residential elevators and the increasing demand for mobility in the home. This presentation is an intermediate level AIA CES course.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is an equal opportunity law that includes standard for accessible design. This presentation provides an overview of ADA and ANSI A117.1 design standards for platform lifts and LU/LA (limited use/limited application) elevators. 

The learning objectives for the course are as follows:

  • Understand basic information on vertical and inclined platform lifts and their code limitations
  • Understand accessibility code requirements for platform lifts (ANSI A117.1 and ADAAG)
  • Understand basic information on commercial LU/LA elevators and their code limitations
  • Understand accessibility code requirements for LU/LA elevators.

By the end of this session, participants should have a broad understanding of ADA design standards for accessibility lifts and LU/LA elevators, their technology, application and advantages 

This presentation is an intermediate level AIA CES course and provides 2 HSW learning units.
